From Imam Khomeini’s perspectives, the Iranian nation is not a population restricted to its geographical location, but is "a true luminous and brightening face of the history of Islam in contemporary era." He considered Iranian people, a nation with a strong faith, wisdom and great determination, who has been able to force the world's largest power to retreat and open the gate for oppressed nations all around the world. From this perspective, Iranian nation is a role-model for the world oppressed nations. It is a nation which has overcome the world's powers and has been turned into a prototype and model for the oppressed ones.Imam Khomeini considered the nation's role in defending the country, the Islamic system and the concept of the “Guardianship of the Jurists” (Velayat-e-Faqih) a very direct and resilient one. From Imam Khomeini's viewpoint, the people are viewed as the guardians of divine religiosity and protectors of country, which in turn is closely associated with the infallible divine savior, that which is Allah. The victory of Islamic revolution broke the fake idols; beings of rudimentary strength, the so-called great powers. In turn, the people and the nation have carried out this great task with untiring effort, forming a united front against a common enemy. Such miracle was made possible with divinely inspired will of the people. People have faced sufferings and rendered numerous sacrifices upon taking up such a burden; All for the sake of a divine cause. Therefore, Iranians according to Imam Khomeini took upon themselves a global mission, one which is closely associated with the ideals of the revolution. Such a nations esteem is mingled with faith, martyrdom and divine purpose. The final victory in Imam’s view is thereby dependent upon the presence of masses and determination of the nation itself.Regarding the role of the masses, Imam was quoted saying:“The victory belongs to the nation who have risen to accomplish their demands.”(Sahifeh ye-Imam, Vol. 4, P. 497)
These quotes show that from Imam Khomeini’s perspectives, the real change and implementation of justice in societies remains shall be incumbent upon the determination and steadfastness of people who only in their constant struggle and resistance against tyranny can hope to overthrow the structure of brutality and dominance and ultimately take destiny into their own hands. Imam believed that the youth who voluntarily rose up from among the masses of this nation were the true symbols of faith, sacrifice and divine will. Hailing and praising their sacrifices as the greatest of all sacrifices, Imam deemed the role of these sons of nation most prominent and vital in protecting the honor of Islam and shielding the grandeur of Islamic Republic of Iran. Therefore, in Imam’s system of thought, the Iranian nation has not only been the main factor behind the victory of the Revolution; It is also a major factor in shielding its values along with being a generating source of esteem and legitimacy for Islam across the globe.
