Ceremony held to mark ۳۷th passing anniversary of Imam Khomeini, devotees converge at holy shrine

People from across Iran  gathered at the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini in the south of the capital Tehran to mark the 37th anniversary since his passing on Thursday.

People from different cities and villages across the nation came to Tehran, some on foot, to get together to mark the ۳۷th passing of the founding father of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini on Thursday.

At the ceremony was present Seyyed Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of the late founder of the Islamic Republic.

Different Iranian officials, including the Judiciary head Ejei and Attorney General Montazeri  joined the people in the ceremony.

The message of the current Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei was read out later in the ceremony.

Imam Khomeini passing anniversary ceremony brings the nation together each year to signal their unity in the face face of threats.

Ayatollah Ruhollah Mousavi Khomeini led the Islamic Revolution that toppled the US-backed Pahlavi monarchy in ۱۹۷۹ and established the Islamic Republic through a national referendum in which more than ۹۸ percent of voters endorsed the new political system.

After years of exile in Turkey, Iraq, and France, Imam Khomeini guided a broad popular movement that ultimately brought an end to decades of monarchical rule in Iran. Upon his return to the country in February ۱۹۷۹, millions of Iranians welcomed him, marking a turning point in the nation’s contemporary history.

He laid the foundations of a political system centered on national independence, popular participation, and resistance to foreign domination, principles that continue to shape the Islamic Republic’s policies and identity.

Imam Khomeini passed away on June ۳, ۱۹۸۹, at the age of ۸۶, nearly a decade after the victory of the Islamic Revolution. His funeral drew millions of mourners and remains one of the largest public gatherings in modern history.

More than three decades after his heavenly passing, Imam Khomeini continues to be remembered in Iran and beyond as a transformative figure whose ideas and leadership left a lasting impact on the political landscape of the region and the Muslim world.
