Alongside the Iranian capital of Tehran, people in other towns across the nation performed their Eid Adha prayers on Wednesday.

In the capital Tehran, the prayers were held at the University of Tehran and led by Hojat-ol-Islam Ahmad Khatami.

It was attended by a large number of Tehran’s faithful people and military and national figures.

The Eid al-Adha prayer ceremony began at 7 am with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by a prominent qari, and a eulogy recitation was then performed.

In the first sermon of the Eid prayer, Hojat-ol-Islam Khatami congratulating all Muslims around the world on this auspicious occasion, referring to passages from Imam Sajjad's (AS) sermon on the day of Eid al-Adha, he advised all worshippers to observe divine piety.

In the second sermon, the senior cleric praised the Iranian people’s presence in the streets during the US-Israeli aggression on the country and said this 87-night presence is a clear example of resistance.

“This phenomenon is completely unique. A nation that is so resistant (is praiseworthy)”, he said, adding that surrendering to the enemy is not going to happen.

Eid al-Adha commemorates the Quranic tale of Prophet Abraham’s (AS) willingness to sacrifice his son Ismael as an act of obedience to God.

The belief holds that God stayed his hand, sparing the boy and placing a ram in his place.

The day is marked with the sacrifice of an animal, usually a goat, sheep, or cow, and the distribution of the meat among neighbors, family members, and the poor.
