Iran’s Minister of Information and Communication Technology Seyed Sattar Hashemi inaugurated 73 projects in the central Yazd Province on Monday at the investment value of dollars 5.5 million to mark the Government Week.In a meeting chaired by Governor General of Yazd Province Mohammadreza Babaeidareh and attended by the provincial officials, Hashemi reviewed the communications status of the province before launching the projects through video conference with a number of cities and villages of the province.

Referring to the capacities of Yazd Province in digital innovation, renewable energies, and industrial productivity, he said, “The implementation of communication projects and strategic documents of Sustainable Yazd and Smart Yazd can turn Yazd into a national model in digital economy and sustainable development.

The rural communications development plan using Universal Service Obligation (USO) provided 6 villages with access to high-speed mobile internet service. The Infrastructure Communications Company also put into operation two major projects, including the development of the Yazd National IP Center with a capacity of 200 Gbps and the improvement of the stability of the transmission network in various centers of the province with a capacity of 300 Gbps, using domestic power.Iran Mobile Communications Company established three new 2G/3G/4G sites and launched fifth generation (5G) technology in one project. In addition, TD-LTE high-speed internet services were developed in five sites and fiber optic services in seven sites.Irancell established two new urban sites and upgraded the technology of 12 other sites to 5G. Pishgaman Toseh Company also implemented the FTTX project in the cities of Ardakan and Shahediyeh providing a coverage of over 94%.

Post Bank of Iran provided facilities for the construction of a solar power plant in Taft and equipped two bank counters in the villages of Bahabad and Yazd. Yazd Regional Telecommunications completed landline network development projects in four cities, installed power and diesel equipment in seven centers, and upgraded data switches in eight centers.

In the industry and cybersecurity sector, two important projects were also inaugurated. Shahid Ghandi Company expanded telecommunication cable production lines, and Amn Pardazan Kavir Company launched a Security Operations Center (SOC) to monitor and deal with cyber threats to executive agencies.

The exploitation of these extensive communication projects is considered an important step in realizing e-government, promoting digital justice, and strengthening the vital infrastructure for the development of Yazd province.

The minister appreciated endeavors of the local officials and said, "One day before the trip, the deputy ministers of the ICT Ministry were present in the cities, discussing the issues closely with the people, and summarized them in a provincial meeting."

Referring to the achievements in the Yazd Province, he presented a report marking the Government Week and added: “Some 538 development projects were inaugurated recently of which 73 projects were in the field of communications and information technology.”“The Sustainable Yazd Development Plan, which is designed with information technology as its core, is a valuable opportunity to introduce Yazd as a national model. This plan seeks to transition from a resource-based economy to a result-oriented and knowledge-based economy.”He also introduced the Smart Yazd document as the province’s first operational plan in the field of artificial intelligence and said, “By implementing these documents, Yazd can take great steps towards productivity growth, digital economy development, and becoming the country’s innovation hub.”

Emphasizing the need for the private sector to participate in the country’s communications development, Hashemi said: “The government is pursuing the transfer of company management to the private sector. One example is the f competition with this approach.”

He referred to opening of two 5G sites by the operators Hamrah Awal and Irancell in Yazd, and said: “The bid for the 3600-3800 MHz frequency band has been finalized after a long time in this government, and the implementation of the fifth generation of mobile phones in the country has entered the operational phase. We will soon witness the acceleration of 5G development in Yazd.”

“The Ministry of Communications is ready to support Yazd University in the field of producing telecommunications equipment and new technologies. We believe that domestic production, in addition to creating jobs, will also lead to an increase in the quality of services.”In response to the requests related to rural coverage, the minister said, “According to the Development Plan, our legal duty is to cover villages with more than 20 households, and we cannot act outside this framework, but in some areas with special conditions, we provide assistance.”The ICT minister introduced the removal of investment barriers as one of the government's programs and said, "The delegation of authority to the governors has also been done on this basis so that they have full authority in this area."Regarding the restrictions on international communications, Hashemi added, "Decisions were made at a certain point that now require review and must be revised based on the opinions of experts and elites."
